Indications :
  • Uttarbasti is an Ayurvedic procedure in which specific oil based medicine or decoction is administered in the urethra, through urethral meatus, with a syringe (urethral catheterization is not required).
  • Uttarbasti is a non invasive procedure with minimal or no pain, so anaesthesia is not required.
  • Procedure is carried out by an expert, under all aseptic precautions and sterilized medicine is used, so there are no chances of introducing any kind of infection into the urethra.
  • Being day care treatment no hospitalization is required and patient can resume work same day as bed rest is not required.
  • Most of the patients require ten sittings which are usually done on alternate days.
  • Total duration of treatment is approximately 20 days.

Procedure :

Precautions to be taken during the treatment of Uttarbasti

Drink lot of water to keep urine white - just like water

Urge of urine should neither be ignored nor forced

Avoid sexual activities including masturbation

Avoid unnecessary catheterization or instrumentation in the urethra

It’s a O.P.D. procedure to know of Hospitalisation.


What to do after the basti

A light diet should be taken after bastis for one day and the following activities should he avoided :

  • sitting for a long duration.
  • standing for long duration
  • excessive talking
  • travelling
  • sleeping during the day
  • exposure to colds.
  • too much sunlight.
  • sexual relationship.
  • anxiety.
  • anger.
  • untimely meals.
  • an incompatible diet.
  • suppression of natural urges (e.g. sneezing, farting, burping, elimination of faeces).
